“But I think that a free market can address this better than complete government...”
– meckz|net: True. Do you really think private business has shown a propensity toward effective management, particularly in this industry? GM, that titan of private industry, went bankrupt earlier this year. All of our investment banks failed, transformed, or were purchases. The federal government...

robot-heart-politics: armeck: I agree with you… But I think that a free market can address this better than complete government control. I do not think that the US federal gov’t has shown a propensity toward effective management. And I do not think that a two-payer system or the free market have shown a propensity toward providing effective health care. And that is why I still follow you...

robot-heart-politics: armeck:robot-heart-politics: I hear this all the time - that we are the best in the world. I do not support a single payer system, but I DO support some type of reform. There is no reason that we aren’t the best in every category. There are many reasons why we aren’t the best in every category. It has to do with what motivates care in our system (money, not taking care...

robot-heart-politics: “It is, I guess, politically correct, widely believed, that to say that American health care is the best in the world. It’s not. There’s a much more complicated story there. For some kinds of care my colleague Brent James calls it rescue care. Yes, we’re the best in the world. If you need very complex cardiac surgery or very advanced chemotherapy for your cancer or some...

I feel so stupid.
I finally got sick of my lowest tier internet service I was subscribed to (1.5 down!). So I called my cable company and said bump me up to the mid level, I’m feeling like a big spender! Learned that to increase my throughput to almost 10x the current speed was going to cost me a whopping $5 extra a month. I wish I had known sooner.

Why I don't care about Ted Kennedy
I just have a hard time saying, “He was a great man, well, except for that one little thing a long time ago where he was drunk, drove off a bridge, left a woman to drown, called his “handlers”, did damage control first, then contacted the police 8-10 hours later. Other than that one tiny blemish, what a great guy!”

– May the Road Rise Up to Meet You (via AZspot) This whole post is worth reading. On a day of glowing (and deserved) tributes to a somewhat unlikely elder statesman, I still can’t forget that Ted Kennedy had some failures. When an obituary proclaims the valor of the Lion of the Senate, I hear a small...

Every Critic a Racist - John Stossel's Take →
It was Obama’s supporters who hinted, teased, promised, and prophesied that Obama would help America “transcend race.” But now, it is they who shrink from their own promised land… From Day 1, Obama’s supporters have tirelessly cultivated the idea that anything inconvenient for the first black president just might be terribly, terribly racist.

Eating the last one.
squashed: Nobody wants to eat the final donut at the office, the roll at the restaraunt, or the last mini-quiche on a platter. Perhaps somebody else wants it more than they do. Perhaps it would look piggish to take that last bit. So it sits there, all alone until somebody less socially graceful grabs it and devours it. That person is me. Somebody has to do it. So there’s one scrap left, no more...

indefensible: From the article: Abuse, intimidation, and degradation are all part of men’s repertoire of tactics employed in competitive situations.
