As of Today, Gay Couples in Mexico City Can Get Married, Adopt & Receive Government Benefits
Today, gay marriage has become legal in Mexico City, setting it apart from the rest of the country. Not only can same-sex couples marry, but they can now adopt children and receive government benefits.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the change is causing culture wars in Latin America, with many of Mexico’s “top names” against the change.

Some of the comments are pretty A+ too.
When even the NPR crowd doesn’t get it, you know how dire the situation is.
I find it somewhat comforting that most of the really horrific comments are coming from the same handful of commenters who seem hell-bent on pushing this notion that if a girl gets too drunk to consent, that she is equally culpable (or culpable at all) when a guy decides to have sex with her without her consent, because everyone knows boys can’t control themselves when it comes to sex. And I think it’s really interesting that this argument comes exclusively from men: you really think other men are so lacking in impulse control that they can’t resist
having sex withraping an unconscious girl in their presence? Because me personally? I have much more faith in men.I am sort of disturbed by the fact that many of these men seem to be repeatedly rationalizing this scenario. I wonder if the men who think a drunk girl takes some blame for being raped would think the same thing if a dude did the same to them when they passed out? I bet the attitude would change significantly then.
