So … Cash for Clunkers.
It looks like the Cash for Clunkers program managed to spend a billion dollars very quickly. I’m sure the increased (and subsidized) sales will be great for the auto industry. Perhaps it solved their inventory problem.
The increased fuel efficiency requirements of the bill were relatively minimal—but if 200,000 cars got slightly more fuel efficient in about a week, that could have a significant impact on fuel prices.
With these “clunkers” being demolished once traded in, wouldn’t this negatively affect the used vehicle market? I mean, my truck qualified (2001 Yukon) - but it certainly wasn’t deserving of compacting into a cube.
