In a Senate of Harry Reids who can barely remember what they stand for from one press conference to the next, the language of moral imperative will be missed.  And for the rest of us, it is an important lesson about the difference between a man’s character and his accomplishments.

This whole post is worth reading. On a day of glowing (and deserved) tributes to a somewhat unlikely elder statesman, I still can’t forget that Ted Kennedy had some failures. When an obituary proclaims the valor of the Lion of the Senate, I hear a small voice echoing back, “Chappaquiddick.” It feels unseemly. Why can’t the ghosts of the past keep their peace for one day?

Because he never owned up to his role in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. How can we praise the life on one who cared so little for the life of others?
