When Idealism meets Reality… reality wins.
One of my coworker’s friends recently returned from Iraq. Upon his return he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. He was put on meds to help control it and that was that. Yesterday Obama announced that the US will be sending more troops to Afghanistan. While an individual is on meds for PTSD, he or she cannot return to a warzone. Guess what happened? The friend was taken off of meds and will be returning to Afghanistan in a few weeks. He was told he’ll be sent to an area where 1/3 of the soldiers die.
How many times is this story replicated? How many soldiers go without proper treatment? When and how did we decide that we didn’t have to honor our soldiers anymore?
They did the same thing to the boy’s in Vietnam… Why weren’t you protesting about this during the first Gulf War? They did it then too. I haven’t seen your face at a VA hospital protest either? You know those over crowded places where the medical staff is learning english and the Vets share a bed with roaches and rats. Have you volunteered your personal time to help a disabled Vet and his family? Or do you just sit on your ass and post articles to make people “think”, so you can go to bed each night thinking you’ve done something for mankind today. -redjeep ( Vietnam Vet and VA Hospital Volunteer)
Hell yes.
